Law Enforcement

Law enforcement agencies across the country are turning to the UbiDuo to ensure equitable access to services during both normal and critical situations. Since the UbiDuo does not require the use of Internet, WiFi or Bluetooth, law enforcement officers are able to provide immediate face to face barrier free services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing 24/7/365 anywhere without having to worry about not having access to a network connection.

The UbiDuo meets federal regulations and requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act), that ensure no individual with a disability shall be treated differently due to the absence of auxiliary aids and services. Most importantly, the UbiDuo empowers non-stop face-to-face communication anytime, anywhere for anyone.

The UbiDuo is effective when used for:

Patrol: Traffic stops, accident investigations, welfare checks, criminal complaints.

Investigation: Witness statements, suspect interviews.

Detention: Intake, inmate directions, medical visits, family communication, court appearances.

Court: Arraignment, hearing/trial, attorney conferences, judges chambers meetings, sentencing.

The UbiDuo meets the PREA standards for both Adult codes § 115.16 and § 115.33, plus the Juvenile codes for PREA standards § 115.316 and § 115.333.

The UbiDuo’s portability make it an ideal device for staff in the field:

  • Maintain Social Distancing

  • 100’ Line of sight

  • Up to 12-Hour Battery Life

  • Direct, Secure Wireless Unit-to-Unit

  • No Internet, Cellular, or Wi-Fi needed

  • Save exact transcripts of communications for report documentation

  • Transcripts have been held as admissible in court

Testimonials

The UbiDuo is working amazingly well!  We have logged 22 uses since 10/29/19. Currently, we’ve kept it in the Booking area to assist with that process, but have used it in other areas as well, particularly when a deaf or hard of hearing inmate stays with us longer than expected.

Using the UbiDuo has made communicating with our deaf and hard of hearing inmates so much easier. It is very easy to use and fast. You can communicate with inmates in either English or Spanish. The UbiDuo is available for the inmates to use during medical screening, classification process and communicating with staff. You can also use the UbiDuo from a safe distance if you are dealing with high security inmates. Conversations can be saved when needed for documentation purposes. They are durable and if damaged, a replacement is sent for your use until your unit is repaired and returned to you. Customer service is one of the best I have dealt with. I strongly recommend the use of the UbiDuo in any detention facility.
